UBC Investment Management (UBCIM) provides portfolio management and advisory services for the University of British Columbia, overseeing major institutional assets including the university’s endowment and pension funds.

Across multiple years, Wall On The Fly partnered with UBCIM to help evolve and communicate the organization’s public-facing identity through responsible investment reporting, website design, brand refinement, and institutional communications systems.

The objective was to create a cohesive visual and editorial language capable of translating complex investment, governance, climate, and ESG concepts into clear public communication.

Approach

Working alongside writer Paul Welsh, the engagement extended beyond the production of annual reports to encompass a broader communications ecosystem including website design, presentation systems, corporate collateral, and environmental branding.

At the centre of the work was the challenge of balancing institutional credibility with accessibility — creating a communications system capable of engaging sophisticated audiences while remaining clear and approachable.

Wall On The Fly led the visual design system, editorial structure, information hierarchy, and production execution across the engagement.

Outcome

The resulting communications platform provided UBCIM with a unified public-facing identity across print, digital, and presentation environments.

More importantly, the work established a durable framework for communicating the organization’s evolving approach to responsible investing with greater consistency, accessibility, and stakeholder understanding.
